Purpose - practical and spiritual

  • my take is that purpose is designed to be at the root of what we do each day, and living out of a sense of purpose is a crucial part of finding meaning in our lives.

  • it is great if purpose is at the centre of work, but I believe we can live purposeful lives whatever work we do, and irrespective of whether we are working or not.

  • purpose is all about direction - when we have a sense of purpose, we start seeing the steps we might take to start fulfilling it;

and

  • purpose is all about who we are, what we love, what we're good at and more - this must link into the very practical stuff we do each day, whether mundane or exciting.

But purpose is also all about who and what we think we should be, and often this takes us beyond ourselves into whatever spiritual stuff we hold as important - whatever that is.

  • for some "spiritual" will be the specifics of their faith, a sense of how they feel God wants them to be, and for some a sense of calling into what they feel they're meant to do

  • for others, "spiritual" will be more vague, more about their place and responsibilities in a bigger world, perhaps how they connect to others and feel part of something beyond themselves.

the secret to finding your purpose is to go from both directions

life driven purpose
